Grant-Writing Workshop: The Department of Energy (DOE)

Specific information on writing effective grant applications and assembling a competitive grant proposal to the Department of Energy (DOE) will be presented. Participants will gain knowledge of the organizational structure of the DOE and its related offices which provide funding opportunities including the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E), the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), the Office of Nuclear Energy, the Office of Fossil Energy, and the Office of Science. Small Business Innovation in Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) opportunities and strategies will also be introduced. Sources for determining funding opportunities, such as Grants.gov, and University and local organizations that provide assistance in grant writing procedures, will be described. The important elements of a proposal, the selection criteria, and the review process will be discussed to further provide guidance in developing a successful proposal. Application procedures to the DOE will be highlighted.
