Format:
Synchronous
Duration:
About 1 hour
Audience:
This is a REd Best Practice Network (live) class.
We will discuss challenges and solutions to the barriers of recruiting non-English speaking participants. We will share ways to ensure you provide quality translations to foster trust and respect. Resources that are available through the Office of Research Participant Advocacy will also be provided.
Discussion Points:
- How can we start to think beyond English when developing studies, consent documents, and recruitment materials?
- What does it mean to provide language that's understandable to the participant?
- What will it take to remove language as a barrier to taking part in research?
- You have a translated document, now what?
- Breakout rooms will be part of this BPN.
Please come prepared to share your experiences with others and to ask tough questions.
This Best Practice Network is part of a 3-class series. Although, it is not required to take all the classes within the series. Classes included in this series are as follows:
- RED 661 | Enhance Equal Opportunity for Study Participants with the use of Research Trained Interpreters
- RED 663 | What Role Does Health Literacy Play on Research Recruitment and Retention?
REd Best Practice Networks are 1 hour in length with a 15-minute presentation and a 45-minute discussion that are led by subject matter experts. They will be developed based on (1) requests from participants and (2) needs from units on campus. Participants are expected to come prepared with any questions that they may have and to engage in a conversation with the facilitator and their peers.
