Lay the Foundation for Reliable Research

Rigor, Reproducibility, and Replicability in Research

The University of Utah community expects the highest levels of integrity, accountability, and responsibility among its research practitioners. Accordingly, the institution has a long-standing commitment to educating its faculty, staff, and students in research to ensure that high standards of transparency are upheld.

Recently, federal guidance has renewed calls for bolstering the rigor, reproducibility, and replicability of the U.S. scientific enterprise (see Restoring Gold Standards), especially as it pertains to clinical trials in humans supported by grant agencies (e.g., NIH). Reviewers are increasingly instructed to evaluate the rigor and reproducibility of proposed work.

To highlight the University’s ongoing commitment to high ethical and transparency standards in research, the Office of Research Education has revamped and re-launched its training (RED 365: Rigor, Reproducibility, and Reproducibility in Research). In Fall 2025, REd will hold events on Rigor, Reproducibility, and Replicability. Please use the links below to register and receive updates for these events.
