Certificate programs and research education courses are available from the Office of Research Education to individuals outside the University of Utah community. Visit the Academy of Research Education website to learn more.
Earning a certificate through Research Education is a flexible, self-paced process designed to support your professional development. Simply enroll in a certificate course, complete the required classes, and submit your documentation—all within 18 months. Once reviewed, your certificate will be available to print or request as a hard copy. It’s a streamlined way to validate your expertise and grow your research skills.
1. Register for a Certificate
Choose the certificate track you want to pursue and click the Enroll Now button to go to the Canvas Catalog enrollment page.
2. Complete Required Classes
Each certificate has a set of foundation and elective classes.
- Classes may be in-person or online, depending on the certificate and semester.
- You can complete classes in any order, but all must be finished within 18 months of starting.
3. Upload Class Completion Certifications
Upon completion of a class, a digital certificate will be awarded.
- Submit your class completion certificates to the appropriate assignments section in the Certificate's Canvas course.
4. RED Review and Award
The Research Education Team will review your submissions within 5 business days.
- Once approved, your certificate will be available to view and print from your Canvas Catalog profile.
- All REd certificates are valid for 3 years from the date of completion.
5. Optional: Request a Hard Copy
You can request an official printed certificate to be delivered to a University address.
- Go to the Canvas Catalog site.
- Click “Login” in the top-right corner.
- Sign in using your uNID and CIS password.
- Click your name in the top-right corner and select “Student Dashboard.”
- Click the “Completed” tab at the top of the page.
- Locate your course and click to view or download your Certificate of Completion.
